You have probably always thought that there is no doubt oil in a glass bottle is the more sustainable option. On top of that you like buying it because it gives you a nice feeling and looks better in the kitchen.
But have your ever considered that maybe the plastic bottle could be more sustainable?
One downside of glass, which is often overlooked, is a much higher transport weight. There is also a lot of energy needed for production and recycling (melting at up to 1600 °C). Considering the CO2 of both over the whole lifecycle makes the PET bottle better in the end.
So if possible: find a PET bottle with recycled material content and a wall thickness as thin as possible.To have the best of both just fill the oil from the PET bottle in the glass bottle for easier handling and you’ll be making your kitchen a bit more sustainable.
